U-14: Our U-14 team kicked off 2015 with a resounding 4-1 away victory versus previously unbeaten Real Tubber in Tubbercurry last Saturday. Needing a victory to kickstart their title defence the Carrick lads came out of the blocks quickly and dominated the game right from the kick off.
We raced into a deserved 3-0 halftime lead after goals from Diarmuid Kelleher, Niall Gannon and another superb long range free-kick from Paul Keaney. Tubber reduced the deficit with an early second half penalty but a well taken second goal for Kelleher killed off the tie.
It was a superb all round display from the whole team with Donal Casey, Oisin Bohan and David O’Connell particularly impressing but man of the match goes to Fiachra Henry who was terrific throughout.
U17: Not a great result after the Christmas break. We were beaten 6-1 by unbeaten table toppers Ballisodare Utd in Ballisodare on Saturday last. Carrick were determined not to let Ballisodare have things their own way and were successful in the first half hour, despite finding themselves 2-0 down due to mistakes of their own making.
Ballisodare added another before Carrick’s Sean Quigley was quick to capitalise on a mistake by the Ballisodare keeper and slotted the ball home to leave the half time score at 3-1. Ballisodare scored early in the second half and Carrick lost their momentum.
Two late goals from Ballisodare sealed a miserable day for the Carrick lads who tried their best but were beaten by the better team as Ballisodare are a force to be reckoned with. We are away to Strand Celtic on Saturday next, k.o. 12pm. Players will be notified.
New Year: Carrick Town FC would like to take this opportunity to wish all their players, coaches, supporters, parents and sponsors a very Happy New Year.
