Leitrim's Muireann Devaney won national recognition for her performances with Athlone Town on Thursday night when the Manorhamilton woman was named on the SSE Airtricity Team of the Year during the 2022 SSE Airtricity Women's National League Awards at the Gibson Hotel in Dublin.

The dual sports star, who was nominated for the Young Player of the Year Award, is one of three Athlone Town players to be named on the team at the prestigious end of year awards after a superb year in which the midlands club finished second in the league and runners-up in the EVOKE.ie FAI Women’s Cup.

Athlone's manager Tommy Hewitt was also named manager of the year while Sligo Rovers' Emma Doherty also made the team of the year while her Bit O'Red teammate Aoife Brennan won the BUY4PETS Online Goal Of The Year.

It caps a remarkable year for the NUI Galway student Devaney who was also named Player of the Match in the Gotham Dry Wall Leitrim LGFA Senior A Championship Final as Glencar Manorhamilton completed a three-in-a-row of county titles.
