Get up, get out and discover Lovely Leitrim

Instead of thinking of all the nice things you could deprive yourself of this year - why not add a list of fun things to do and see around Leitrim.

A whole new year, months of weekends stretch out before you so why not grab your diary/ calendar and mark out a weekend every month to discover or re-discover the many beautiful places and activities around the county.

If you live in Carrick-on-Shannon maybe you don't get to visit Carrigallen or Drumkeerin on a regular basis. Those who live in Kinlough may not spend much time in Dromod or Drumshanbo - but this year get yourself up off the couch, grab a friend or some of the family and explore your backyard!

Manorhamilton and Parkes Castle make a lovely day out for those interested in history while a trek up Sliabh an Iarainn or Sheemore give the outdoor enthusiasts plenty to shout about.

Lough Allen Adventure and the Electric Bike Trails are great fun for all the family while there are numerous walking trails throughout the county.

If you like food check out for food trails and inspiration for new restaurants and cafes.

You can take an eco treat at Ard na hoo, visit Sean MacDiarmada's homestead in Kiltyclogher.

Have you ever taken the time out cruise the Shannon Erne?

You can get a tour of the Food Hub in Drumshanbo or the Cavan Railway.

Stand Up Paddle is something you have to try and if you have not visited Glencar Waterfall, make 2016 the year you do it.

There will be plenty of festivals and events announced throughout the county in 2016.

The Leitrim Observer will be promoting many events around the county this year, so keep an eye out each week for new things to see and do.
