Chiropractix: Highly trained in treating female pregnancy - what we can do to help you

Pregnancy is one of the most life changing experiences, from changes hormonally to the mechanical changes that it causes to the body. At Chiropractix we treat pregnant females who are in all trimesters.
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE BODY DURING PREGNANCY
Hormonal changes in estrogen and progesterone cause more laxity (loosening) of the ligaments in particular those around the pelvis and pelvic girdle. This allows for more movement and joint repositioning as the extra weight is now being carried through this area.
Increased weight will mechanically cause pressure on the joints of the pelvis and lumbar spine, which in turn can irritate the sciatic, resulting in sciatica (leg pain due to pressure on the sciatic nerve). The movement of the spine and pelvis from its, “normal” position causes this.
One other major symptom which can occur in the pelvic area during pregnancy is a severe burning or sharp pain located on the front of the pelvis, due to movement of the anterior part of the pelvis known as our pubic symphysis. This is called pubic symphysis.
Increased breast size can also cause mechanical problems such as, forward rounding of the shoulders, which can cause pain and pressure into the area between the shoulder blades and increase tension in the neck, sometimes resulting in headaches.
WHAT CAN WE DO TO HELP YOU, AND WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS
Chiropractors at Chiropractix are highly trained in treating females when pregnant. They are aware of the physical changes that occur during each trimester and ensure the safety of the treatment we offer during each trimester. Realignment of the joints through various techniques depending on trimester are beneficial along with some soft tissue techniques and release of the Round Ligament, which helps reduce the possibility of the baby being breach as it assists with the movement of the baby in the womb.
Some research has shown a decrease in labour times of a woman’s first pregnancy by 24% and up to 33% less with their second pregnancy. Other research shows that 50% of pregnant females experience back pain and Chiropractic Care helps alleviate 85% of these symptoms.
