A massive jackpot victory in the EuroMillions recently has highlighted the big sums up for grabs across several lotteries in Europe.
Mid-July 2022 saw a single ticket win a record €230 million in the EuroMillions draw. The winner came forward to claim their prize a day after the draw, after matching the winning line of 6, 23, 27, 40 and 41 - with Lucky Stars 2 and 12.
While EuroMillions is not available to bet on at Lottoland, several other global lottos are offered to bet on, including the Irish Lottery, Powerball and Mega Millions. With Lottoland, you can bet on the outcome of the lottery at a chance to win the same prizes as if you bet on the official lottery.
The Irish Lottery has produced some big winners over the years. The biggest main prize won was early January 2022's €19 million. In June 2008 and April 2010, there were jackpot wins of €18.9 million and €16.7 million, respectively. There was another record in October 2010 of €16.3 million. Some of those Irish Lottery jackpot winners have done wonders with their winnings.
For those looking for a lottery to enter further abroad, they can bet on Powerball and Mega Millions lottery at Lottoland.ie.
It's worth comparing the two for a bit of insight for each. The first thing to note is probably their odds of winning the jackpot. For Mega Millions, the chances are about one in 302 million and for Powerball, it's one in 292 million.
The Mega Millions is drawn twice a week - on Tuesday and Friday. The Powerball draw is more frequent - on Monday and Wednesday and Saturday. For those who want a chance to win at the start, in the middle and toward the end of the week, the Powerball can be an obvious standout. Out of interest, the French Lotto draw also happens three times a week.
And don't forget the prize tiers below the jackpot. They can also be valuable. Mega Millions and Powerball have nine each. They are quite close when it comes to the chances of winning any prize at all, too. For Mega Millions it's one in 24 and Powerball one in 25.
Mega Millions and Powerball are massively popular. Other lotteries can serve up some really big prizes, but it's tough to look past the American duo when it comes to the biggest jackpot won across all lotteries.
The biggest payout amount in the Powerball came in 2016. It was a huge sum of $1.586 billion. The Mega Millions' biggest payout was in 2018. It was the hefty amount of $1.537 billion.
Overall, among all the lotteries in the world, the Powerball actually holds six of the top 10 biggest jackpot prizes ever. The Mega Millions completes the remainder of the 10 with four.
For context and contrast, though, it's also worth looking at the biggest jackpots of other lotteries outside the United States of America.
For the EuroMillions, it's €230 million. For Italy's SuperEnaLotto, it's €209.1 million. For the EuroJackpot, it's €120 million. For the German Lotto, it's €45.4 million. For the French Lotto, it's €24 million. And, to reiterate, as mentioned earlier up the page, the biggest payout in the Irish Lotto was €19 million in early 2022.
