Muireann Devaney picked up her first piece of national silverware last Saturday when Athlone Town defeated Shelbourne in the inaugural President's Cup Final in Athlone Town Stadium.

Shelbourne went two up with goals from Noelle Murray & Alex Kavanagh inside the first 13 minutes. Devaney got Athlone back into the game when she poked the ball to the corner of the Shels net. Athlone, with five players making their debuts, drew level when Roisin Molloy blocked a clearance from Shels keeper Courtney Maguire with the ball rebounding into the net.

In the penalty shootout, Athlone had the first miss when sub Kellie Brennan saw her shot saved but Glackin made a superb stop to deny Ruvimbo Mucherera in the fifth kick, Devaney dispatched her effort to the net with Glackin denying Shels to seal the victory for Athlone.

Athlone Town's first SSE Airtricity League fixture of the season will have a Leitrim flavour as they host Mohill's Dearbhaile Beirne and Peamount Utd next Saturday, March 4, at 7pm in an exciting start to the season.
