As Leitrim clubs prepare to submit their Connacht Club Development Grant applications the Leitrim GAA Safety and Facilities Committee are urging clubs to use this tranche of funding to upgrade the Facilities for People with Disabilities at their Club grounds.
Last year the Leitrim GAA Safety & Facilities Committee launched a report on disability facilities at Leitrim Club Grounds which found that upgrades were needed in most Club grounds and now the committee are asking Clubs to use this opportunity to provide the necessary upgrades.
Among the areas the report focused on were spectator accommodation, toilet facilities, steps, the provision of ramps and Parking facilities.
While the committee recognise that upgrading facilities can create a financial burden on already cash strapped clubs, the Committee feel that the Connacht GAA Club Development grant scheme provides an Ideal opportunity for Clubs to provide these necessary upgrades.
The report also indicated that only a small number of clubs provided a Disability Permit Parking area and the Committee are now urging Clubs to provide at least one parking area, which is a much needed facility at their grounds, under this scheme.
Closing date for application to Connacht Council GAA is July 27, and all Leitrim applications must be with the Leitrim GAA Safety & Facilities Committee by Thursday July 20.
