Rising star Naoise McManus of Drumsna BC won gold at the Celtic Box Cup recently on September 17.
Naoise, who is coached by former Irish boxing champions Saidhbh and Sibhéal Greene, had three tough fights to gain the title of Celtic box cup champion.
On the Friday, Naoise overcame Ali Amunullah of St. Francis Limerick in what would be Naoise’s first fight of this season. This set up a semi final for Naoise against Oscar Lewins of Monkstown Dublin. A fight that made Naoise dig deep to win via 3/2 spilt decision.
Naoise then competed in the final against Stephen Walsh of Monkstown Dublin winning 5–0 to gain the title.
The club would like to express their gratitude to all who helped Naoise in his preparation for this competition including his father Eugene McManus, Siobhán Greene and Debbie and Vinny Moran.
Drumsna BC have six boxers entered in the Wexford Box Cup in November and are hoping to build on what has been a very successful start to the current season.
