INdoor Soccer provided Leitrim’s only qualifier for the HSE National Community Games Finals when Carrick-on-Shannon Area won the U-13 Boys competition in comprehensive fashion last Saturday.
With Leitrim hosting the finals, hundreds of children from all over Connacht descended on Carrick for the day, with Leitrim winning one gold and two silver medals.
Carrick’s gold medal came when they defeated Athenry 7-3 in the final after they prevailed with a last minute goal against Strokestown in the semi-final.
Carrigallen Aughavas also won a silver medal in U-12 Draughts after they beat Bohola of Mayo in the Semi-Final while Ballinamore Area’s U-13 Boys were beaten by Roscommon Kilteevan in the Final of the One Wall Handball competition after they beat Charlestown in the semi-final.
Drumshanbo’s U-10 Indoor Soccer team were very unlucky not to reach their Final. The event proved a great success for a hard working committee led by Mary Keenan. The second part of the Connacht Finals takes place in Leitrim in June.
