Mohill Basketball Club will be working off the Christmas Dinner early this year when they host a basketball blitz in memory of Luke Early in Mohill Sports Complex with voluntary donations in aid of St Vincent De Paul.
The action gets underway at 2pm on St Stephen’s Day with the Ladies on the court followed by a clash of the “Golden Greats” and the current Mohill team with the winning captain receiving the Luke Early Perpetual Cup.
Luke was a stalwart of the local community as, apart from running a successful pub and undertaking business, he was heavily involved in many sporting organisations and community groups in Mohill including the choir, GAA & Soccer clubs, Tidy Towns, Festivals and, of course, the basketball club.
His involvement in basketball started first as a young players in the 60s and continued right through Senior level, competing in many finals before graduating to the coaching ranks as well as officiating.
So come on down to the Sports Complex, a facility in which Luke was also involved in - in fact, Luke also played on the opening day against the legendary Ballina team which included the McHale brothers.
There will also be a bucket at the door for voluntary donations for Saint Vincent De Paul with refreshments afterwards in The Spirit
