Potential impacts of the temperature drop include hazardous travelling conditions and animal welfare issues.

The Status Yellow warning is in place from 6pm on Thursday, January 2nd to to 11 am on Friday, January 3.

Met Éireann’s Brandon Creagh told RTÉ Radio One’s Morning Ireland that a weather advisory will follow the latest weather warning.

"Temperatures tonight are expected to drop to as low as -5 degrees, across the entire country," Mr Creagh said.

"We don’t know exactly where the snow will fall in the coming days and that’s why we will issue a weather advisory, we’re asking people to keep an eye on the weather forecast,” he added.
