Alert: Met Éireann issues ice and snow warning for Leitrim and surrounding counties

The Snow-Ice warning comes into place for Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Connacht and Louth on Saturday evening

Met Éireann issues weather warnings.

A Status Yellow warning comes into place for Leitrim and the entire country on Saturday with warnings from Met Éireann of severe frost and ice along with hazardous travel conditions. 

The national forecaster warns of wintry showers with some snow accumulations.

Sharp or severe frost and ice is also forecast with the possibility of hazardous travel conditions and poor visibility. 

The Status Yellow Snow - Ice warning for Leitrim is in place from 18:00 on Saturday, January 3 to 11:00 Sunday, January 4. 

A Status Yellow - Snow-Ice warning will be in place for Donegal from 6pm on Friday evening, which may impact those living in north Leitrim also.

Temperatures are forecast to fall between -2 and -4 degrees in many areas around the country with a warning of sharp or severe frost and icy stretches.
