Opening in The Dock

Annual Open Season Exhibition is back

Opening on Saturday, November 26 at 2pm the annual Open Season exhibition is always a highlight in The Dock's visual art calendar, and a great opportunity for selected artists to show their work in The Dock’s gallery spaces.

Artists at all stages in their artistic careers exhibit in this unique show and the works include painting, drawing, photography and sculpture. The exhibition is always vibrant and eclectic, great to look at and and the perfect place to pick a truly original Christmas gift.

For the opening preview pupils from Scoil Mhuire National School will perform Christmas carols on the staircase to officially open the exhibition.

As well as the Open Season show, this year The Dock will also host two other exhibitions one by the Abbey Community College in Boyle and the second a touring exhibition by Red Bird Youth Collective, a youth arts group based in Galway.

The show by students of Abbey Community College is called The Human Head. For this very interesting show the 5th year students from the school will examine and explore the human head from original Stone Age sculptures, to contemporary zombie movies, to anatomical perfection, to the hyper stylised ambitions of the fashion industry. They are hoping to generate a foundation of flesh and bone research upon which they will present sculptures that challenge and delight in equal measure.

Claiming Space is a touring exhibition by Red Bird Youth Collective, a youth arts group based in Galway. Since its inception, Red Bird has been supporting creativity and claiming artistic space for young people in Galway, and now, nationally.

All are welcome to attend the opening. Both these shows are well worth a visit as is the wonderful Open Season exhibition. They can be viewed from November 26th until Saturday 14th January so if you want to take a break from your Christmas shopping do call in for a look and maybe a coffee or tea in the Jury Room Café.

Admission is free and the galleries are open from 10am. We look forward to welcoming you.
