Dan McCabe plays Landmark Live this weekend

Dan McCabe

Balladeer extraordinaire Dan McCabe kicks off a busy month for live music at the Landmark Hotel with his first appearance in Carrick-on-Shannon on Saturday, March 5.

Dan came to national attention during lockdown in 2020 when, without live gigs to play, he instead turned his focus to posting self made videos of his music on social media. What was originally intended as a pastime and escape from the hardship and gloom of the pandemic soon drew him attention from around the world.

His videos caught the eye of senior producers at RTE and his rendition of Luke Kelly's 'Song for Ireland’ was featured as part of a tribute to healthcare workers on the Sunday Game. This segment really captured the public’s mood and imagination at the time and went viral, acting as a real catalyst and gaining Dan a huge online audience and leading the way for various TV appearances and an incredible 12 million views online. Dan ended a whirlwind 2020 performing at Áras an Uachtarain by special invitation of President Michael D Higgins, where he sang 'The Parting Glass' as a gesture to all those who had died or lost a loved-one during the previous year.

With the live music scene finally opening up again, Dan is finally getting back on the road to play for audiences around the country who first discovered him during the pandemic. Very much from the same tradition of great Irish ballad singers like Luke Kelly and Liam Clancy, Dan’s powerful evocative voice that has to be heard to be believed.

Support on the night comes from another new face on the Irish folk/ballad scene, Cork singer and musician Meadhbh Walsh. Maedhbh grew up listening to classic Irish acts like The Dubliners, Mary Black, Séan Keane, Christy Moore, The Fureys and has had a major interest in contemporary, church and American country music all her life. Now 21, she’s been gigging since she was just 14. Like Dan, she took to social media during lockdown, and grew her follower count from 1000 to over 70,000. She also recorded and released her first two albums, 'Off By Heart' and 'Unforgotten' featuring covers of beloved Irish songs in her own unique style.

Don’t miss this opportunity to catch two rising stars of Irish music on their first Leitrim appearances!

Doors open this Saturday, March 5 at 7.30pm with show starting at 8pm. Tickets €30, available at The Landmark Hotel t: 071 9622 222 and online @ www.ticketmaster.ie
