The St. Patrick’s Day Parade was held with lots of floats and marching bands. It was somewhat less enjoyable this year because of two recent tragedies between Gowna and Arva. It sort of put a damper on the annual event.


Ballinamuck Bingo every Tuesday night. Moyne Bingo Thursdays, Cloone Wednesdays, Ballinamore every Tuesday night with big prizes to be won. Also Drumreilly Bingo each Friday at 8:30pm.

Car Smashes into wall

A young motorist escaped death on Sunday morning week last when the car he was driving left the road at Cloncorrick, Carrigallen town and demolished walls and piers just at the entrance to the ploughing match field.

Put your clocks forward

Before you go to bed on Saturday night march 30th, put your clocks and watches forward to summer time one hour or you will be caught out on Sunday. Bingo will start at the later time of 9pm from now on.

Arva public house closes down

The well-known Market Bar on the Market Square in Arva closed its doors for the last time on Monday week last March 18th. The demise of customers and changed drinking habits are many causes and reports say two more are going to close shortly. It’s the same story all across the country lately.

Carrigallen Ploughing Match

The annual County Leitrim Ploughing Competitionis taking place this year on the lands of John and Ann O’Malley at Cloncorrick at the edge of the town. It should attract a big crowd on Easter Saturday, March 30th next and bring a bit of business to the town as well. The Queen of the Plough Dance the same night in the Kilbracken Arms Hotel should be a big event. The Ploughing Match was held too far from the town in recent years. Now businesspeople are happy that it’s back locally.

Holy Week begins

The Palm was blessed in all the local churches on Sunday, March 24th last. It’s the start of the Holy Week ceremonies up to Easter Sunday. It’s a busy time for all of the clergy at the Catholic and Church of Ireland Churches.
