Graveyard survey project

The Parish Pastoral Council and the Parish Finance commitee have commissioned a project that will make it easier for visitors with roots in the parish to find their family burial plots in the two parish cemteries. Irish Graveyard Surveyors (IGS) will carry out a survey of both cemeteries in March and will draw up a map for each cemetery showing the location of each marked burial plot. Their camera equipment will read all the grave stones and record the information no matter how faded the writing. There will be no interference with any headstone or grave. The maps of Kilronan will be displayed in Keadue Church and the map of Arigna in Arigna church. Families will be invited to check that their plots are recorded accuaretely. Following this consulation period, a notice board with the final map of graves will be eerected in the appropriate cemeteries. There will also be a link from the parish website to IGS allowing those from home and aboard to access the information. For further information, check out the IGS website This project will be a help to those visiting the area for the “Gathering”.
