Roadside clean-up

Roadside clean-up

Last Saturday saw a great clean-up of the road sides in the Dromod/Bornacoola area, this was all litter disposed of mostly by passing motorists but some was deliberate illegal dumping. In all there were over 150 bags filled with milk cartons, beer and mineral cans and bottles, take away wrappers, dirty nappies, tyres and the list goes on and on. I would like to say a special thanks to all the volunteers who came along and gave their time and some of them their transport to clean up other peoples mess.

We would hope to continue this annually around the end of February/start of March, weather permitting.

Dromod Family Festival Day

Sunday, 5th May. An email to hand from Darryn PRO of Dromod family festival day and it reads as follows: Dear all, after our third successive Family Festival Day last May, it’s now truly a permanent date on the Dromod calendar. The Festival Committee have once again dusted themselves down and the cogs are in motion. As in previous years, the festival field will have traditional Irish music and dancing, cake sale and refreshments, kids art competition, face painting and spot prizes not to mention super slides, bungee run, bouncy castle and a few extras yet to be decided.

Last year’s 5km Fun Run was a great success with over 100 entries so will be repeated again. The Dog Show has also firmly made its mark on the day as has our agricultural corner which we hope to bring a few more attractions to. Weigh the bull, no doubt again, will be a great draw to expert and amateur alike.

Once again Noreen Diffley and Martin Downes have kindly agreed to let us use their fields. The format of for the day will build on lasts years but as before we’re still very interested to hear from any individuals, groups or organisations who could further add to the success of the day.
