The late Bartley Bohan

We record the death of Bartley Bohan, Foxborough, Drumsna, Carrick-on-Shannon which sad event occurred on Friday, February 8th at Sligo General Hospital. Bartley (ex C.I.E.) beloved husband of the late Mary, is survived by his sorrowing brothers Martin (McLoughra) and Jim, sisters Mary, Bridie and Anna (USA), sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and a large circle of friends. His remains reposed at St. Patrick’s Hospital Mortuary on Wednesday evening, February 13th with removal afterwards to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Drumsna. Funeral Mass took place on Thursday, February 14th with burial afterwards in Mohill Cemetery. May he rest in peace.

The late Sean Ward

The death has occurred of Sean Ward, Rosharry, Mohill on Tuesday, February 12 at the North West Hospice, Sligo. He is surivived by his loving brothers Mike Joe and Seamus, sisters Maura (Stenson), Dublin Road, Carrick-on-Shannon, and Kathleen (Lowe), Bridge Street, Carrick-on-Shannon, nephews, nieces, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, relatives and friends. His remains reposed at St. Patrick’s Hospital, Carrick-on-Shannon on Wednesday, February 13th with removal afterwards to St. Patrick’s Church, Mohill. Funeral Mass took place on Thursday, February 14th with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. May he rest in peace.

The late Eithne Smyth

We record the death of Eithne Smyth (nee Mulvey), High St., Ballinamore at her home on Thursday, February 14th surrounded by her loving family. Wife of the late Paddy, Eithne is survived by her family Gregory, Patricia (McNamara), Damien, Ciarán, Gary (Rosebank, Attirory, Carrick-on-Shannon), Conor and Raymond, her sisters (including Bernie Keaney, Bridge Street, Carrick-on-Shannon), brothers, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, daughters-in-law Emer, Marian, Cathy, Martina and Sarah, son-in-law Dan, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and a large circle of friends.

Her remains reposed at her home on Friday, February 15th before removal to St. Patrick’s Church, Ballinamore for Funeral Mass on Saturday with burial afterwards in Oughteragh Cemetery, Ballinamore. May she rest in peace.

Alzheimer’s fundraising concert

We all wish to do our best for our loved ones who are affected by the growing problem of Alzheimer’s. We all know of people who suffer with this terrible illness and the problems it poses for families. We are lucky to have a wonderful facility in St Patrick’s Hospital but as funding is getting tighter each year all donations and assistance they receive is gratefully received and goes to ensure the best care for the patients. Eleanor Shanley, together with Charlie McGettigan and local artists have kindly offered to perform a special fundraising night in the new St. Joseph’s Resource Centre, beside the church in Leitrim Village, on Sunday, 24th February at 8pm. Admission is €15 and tickets are on sale in the Post Office, Leitrim Village, Mulvey’s Carrick-on-Shannon and Beirne’s, Knockvicar PO. All proceeds from this event will go towards the Alzheimer Unit in St. Patrick’s Hospital, Carrick-on-Shannon. All are welcome for what promises to be a wonderful night’s entertainment in Leitrim Village.

Active Age

At a recent meeting of Carrick-on-Shannon Active Age the following suggestions were put forward for outings and activities. A four night mid-week break in late May to Carlow. The following trips will be included a day in Waterford, also a visit to Kilkenny and other local interests in the Carlow area. Day trips to be arranged to the following. Omagh, Lough Derg, Bloom Flower Festival, Art Gallery and Westport. People interested in any of the above get your names in immediately.

Art Class in the Dock for first Group on February 21st 11 am – 1pm . Group two starts on February 28th for five classes, same times. Our Group meet every Monday 2.30-4.30pm in the Wheelchair Association Premises on Castlecarra Road, opposite Aldi. New members are always welcome, just come along and join in the “craic”.

Tesco Bag Pack for Connacht Community Games Finals

Leitrim will host the Connacht Community Games team finals this year with events being spread around the various county towns, but mainly Carrick-on-Shannon area. As part of the fundraising for this event a Bag Pack was held in Tesco, Carrick on Friday and Saturday which raised €1,000 which will go toward the organising of the various events which will be held on 6th April and 15th June. The committee would like to thank the following who gave their time at Tesco last weekend – Breain and Conor Farrell, Marie Walsh, Irene and Kathy Beirne, Serena & Sibéal Reynolds, Callum & Siobhán Whelan, Jennifer & Aisling McGuinn, Lily Crossley, Mary O’Brien, Graham Allen, Siobhan McElgunn, Kay Tivnan, Geraldine and Mary Keenan and Frankie Smith.

Volunteers needed for Connacht Community Games Finals

Leitrim Community Games are holding an open meeting in The Bush Hotel on Tuesday, 26 February at 8pm. We are encouraging volunteers who are willing to help out at the forthcoming Connacht Community Games Finals to come along. There is no pressure on anyone to take a job, this is purely voluntary, so if you are interested in helping out with any of the following sports please come along or contact Mary Keenan 087 2073633. The list of team events scheduled are – 6th April: Badminton, Chess, Draughts, Handball, Indoor Soccer, Rugby (Hybrid, Minis & Tag), Table Tennis. 15th June – Basketball, Camogie, Gaelic Football, Tennis, Hurling, Rounders, Skittles, Outdoor Soccer, Spike Ball.

The Christy Quinn Memorial Shield Competition was held in the Bush Hotel on February 11th. The results are as follows: 1st Des Clarke and Margaret Clarke. 2nd Sean Sloan and Pat Dowd. 3rd Dr. Geraldine Greene and Peter Collins. 4th P.J. Shanley and John McMonagle. 5th Mary Flynn and Bernie Keaney. 6th Bertha Patterson and Teresa Griffin. Play continues on Monday nights at 8pm in the Bush Hotel. New members are very welcome.

Our St Vincent de Paul Ozanam House Shop opening hours are now as follows: Mondays 11am-2pm, Tuesdays & Wednesdays 2pm-5pm, Thursdays 11am-5pm & 8pm-10 pm, Fridays 11am to 5pm. We are always looking for good secondhand clothes for our shop. Please only drop clothes into shop during shop opening hours. We are unable to accept furniture or electrical items. Please do not leave bags outside shop as 24 hour cameras are in operation.

New Sports Programme: Starting 19th February.

Breffni Youth Café will be starting a Healthy Living Project, this project will have two elements, one of which will be looking at Eating Healthy and the second will be engaging in a range of various Sports and Activities, This programme will run for 8 week , with such sports as Rugby, Soccer, Athletics, Hurling, Boxercise and lots lots more.

We are delighted to be working with Leitrim Sports Partnership in the delivery of this project. Cost per Group is just €1.
