Abbey Haven Care Centre and Nursing Home, Carrick Road, Boyle will host the Western Alzheimer’s Tea Day on Friday 26th April 2013. The Tea Day is a Fundraising Event and all monies raised will be used to secure help in the community for all those families caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease. Laugh Out Loud
On Friday April 26th at 8pm Comedian Conal Gallen who has just come off the back of his record breaking stand up television show A Laugh and a Half comes to King House in which promises to be one to the funniest shows you are ever likely to see. After his sell out tour last Autumn the comic makes his first appearance at King House, with a show that is littered with hilarious jokes, stories and songs. Boyle Golf Club
On Sunday April 14th the 18 hole stroke was won by Michael Reid, 2nd Jim Mooney, Gross Sean Heslin, 3rd Willie Tiernan. Congratulations to Liz Dwyer who won the Ladies Voucher in very difficult weather conditions. The outing to Ballinrobe was a great success with 25 taking part. Well done to Liz Dwyer who won the overall prize and the Captains Trophy.
Winner of the mens prizes were 1st Charlie O’Donnell, 2nd Brendan Gaffney, Gross Patrick Egan, 3rd Gary Carty, 1st Nine James Shivnan, 2nd Nine Sean Heslin. Winner of the ladies prize was Peggy Feely and the winner of the lucky dip was Pat Brogan. Thanks to Adrian King for his generous sponsorship and thanks to all who took part. The Club will hold a “Quiz and Curry Nite” on Friday April 26th. Cost will be €15 per person and quizmasters Susan and Brendan assure us of a great night. All support appreciated. The tree planting will take place on Saturday April 27th. Volunteers will be needed on Saturday morning please put your name on the sheet. Refreshments will be provided. Thanks to all have volunteered to help on the course and in the clubhouse, rotas on the clubhouse door, all support appreciated. Members are asked to encourage family, friends, and neighbours, past members or work colleagues to consider joining the club. Every little helps.
May Day celebrations
Croi na nOg Steiner Kindergarten will be celebrating May Day (Bealtaine) on Saturday, April 27th at their centre in Aughnagrange, Boyle (just off the Frenchpark Road). The Boyle Charity Duathlon takes place on Sunday 6th May in Lough Key Forest Park, Boyle. The race is a sprint distance 5k run 20k cycle 2.5k run and follows the same route as previous years. The charity supported this year is The Ciara Grehan Foundation in association with Ability West. No race licence required and entry cost €25. Drama King House
The hugely popular and well-known Leitrim playwright, Seamus O’Rourke brings ‘The Sand Park’ to the King House stage on Thursday May 9th. Told in his own inimitable way, this is a play about rural Irish life and the way we cope with the inevitable, The Sand Park deals with the fun of life, the ritual of death and what happens when either one is altered. A moving and funny account of one man’s emotional journey after the loss of his son and wife, starring Seamus himself in the lead role - you won’t want to miss it!

A Men’s Shed is a place where men of all ages, backgrounds and situations can come together to share information, share skills, or just talk together, in a safe, friendly environment meeting every Tuesday at 4pm. The Boyle Shed are currently looking for a premises in Boyle town which would be a base to enable them to work on skills such as wood turning, computers, music, mechanics and other skills.
