Feis Results: Pupils from the Mc Cartin SD competed at Feiseanna in Crossmolina, Co. Mayo, Kilbride, Co. Roscommon and Ashbourne, Co. Meath recently. Class Championships: The McCartin SD class Championship were held in Drumreilly Community Centre on Easter Saturday. Results to follow in next week’s edition.

Fundraising Cake Sale: In October 2013, 45 pupils from the McCartin SD will make the trip across the Irish Sea to compete at the CRN UK Championships which will be held in Swansea, Wales. A number of mini fundraising initiatives will be taking place in the coming months. The school hosted a cake sale on Easter Saturday night following mass, it proved a great success thanks to those who contributed to the array of cakes and desserts on offer and to those who supported the venture! Your support was greatly appreciated!

“Best on Foot” at Ballinamore St. Patrick’s Day Parade! The McCartin SD continued their winning ways, away from the Feis circuit, when they took part in the Ballinamore, St. Patricks Day Parade. Entered in the “Best on Foot” category, 27 pupils from the school bared the inclement weather conditions and stepped it out performing a traditional mix in front of the viewing stand. The judges were impressed and the McCartin SD were awarded the “Best on Foot” Award for our fancy footwork!

Active Age Group

Ballinamore Active Age Group are holding their next meeting in Trathnona on Thursday April 18th at 3pm. A beautician will attend. Ballinamore Area Community Games

Well done to all the boys who took part in the Connacht finals held in Leitrim last weekend. We had two teams taking part, one at Badminton in Ballinamore and the other at Handball in Fenagh. The team were, U13 Badminton- Damien Creaven, Jamie Sweeney, Edvinas Matelis, Mark Maguire, James Og Maguire, Darren Maxwell. U13 Handball- Cormac Scollan, James Wrynn, Eoin McLoughlin, Fergal McLoughlin, Tom McKeon, Caolan McDermott. Many thanks to those who welcomed visiting teams and looked after them during the day.

Seán O’Heslin’s GAA

Celebrating 100 Years in June:Part of our big celebration on Saturday 29 June will be the honouring of the team which won the 1988 Senior Championship. It is now 25 years since that famous victory over Aughawillan. It is expected that all of the players will be making it to the marquee in the Park on 29 June for what will, most likely, be the biggest ever gathering of former player on our own club grounds for such a celebration.

Ladies Get Fit

Ladies after Easter you can get fit with group classes and find the motivation to stick to your weight loss plan. New 6 week fitness programme starting Monday the 8th and Thursday the 11th of April at 8pm in Ballinamore Community Centre. Also if you want to start exercising join our Tuesday and Thursday at 11am class in the SOH GAA Gym. Being around people with a similar goal amplifies your enthusiasm. The Final of the Drino Cup was played last Friday night in Jackie’s, 32 players took part in the competition. The standard of darts was very good, good scoring, good finishes over all, a great night of darts. The beaten quarter finalists were Ciaran Hearty, Barney McAdam, Andy Ralph and Garry Murray. The beaten semi-finalists were Richard McDermott and TP Keane. The finalists were Liam Aldridge and Keith Boyle, Liam just getting the better of Keith in a very close final. Well done to everyone who took part in the competition. Well done to all who kept the games running smoothly all night and to Connor Scollan and Ciaran Hearty who organised the draw for the competition. Thanks to Catherine for sponsoring the raffle and the refreshments during the night. Thanks to all who bought the tickets in the raffle. Before the finals started the Vice Chairman of the dart League Michael McGirl and Treasurer Terry Shortt made a presentation on behalf of the League to former secretary Pakey Murphy and his wife Bernie for all the work they done over the years, thanks Pakey and Bernie.

Afterschool party

Ballinamore afterschool are having a party in Lollipop Kids to celebrate 10 years of afterschool service in Ballinamore. Please come and help us celebrate on Saturday the 13th April 2013 between 2pm and 4pm. We have activities for all children and light refreshments. Winter Courses

Winter Courses held at Riversdale, Ballinamore - Adult Swimming Lessons (Monday nights) 7-30pm until 8-15pm Aqua Aerobics (Monday nights) 8-15pm until 9-00pm Children Swimming Lessons (Thursday Nights) 6-00pm until 8-00pm. All courses commence week starting 15th April.

Athletic Club

Training resumes on Tuesday evening next at the new time of 7.00 p.m. and will continue on Tuesday and Thursday evenings until the primary schools close for the summer. The programme will include preparation for the track and field season competitions as well as general outdoor and indoor fitness training with new members always welcome.

Sports Hall users

The Winter season has been completed without any interruption and a number of groups have moved outdoors. With slots now becoming available at different times on various days there are an increased number of opportunities for new once off users. Booking to 9744207.

Ballinamore Women’s Group

There are some place available for the weekend trip to Letterkenny, staying in the Mount Errigal Hotel from the 17th to 19th of May.
