26th Daffodil Day

The staff at the Bank of Ireland with the support of the business community of Elphin and the surrounding areas will be promoting Daffodil day on Friday March 22nd with the sale of Silk Daffodils, Pins and Key Rings with the Daffodil Logo.

The outdoor stall will be in place on Main Street, Elphin where fresh blooms will also be available. This is the 26th year of Daffodil day. The outdoor stall has also been in place for all of the 26 years. All the proceeds from the day will go to the “Irish Cancer Society”.

Boyle People of the Year

The Presentation function for the 2012 recipients has been arranged for The Resource Centre, Abbeytown, Boyle on Friday, March 22nd commencing at 8.00pm and is open to all members of the community.

Fabulous Fashion Show

Boyle Horse & Summer Show is hosting a fashion show on Friday March 22nd in St. Joseph’s Hall, Boyle. The show starts at 8.30 pm, doors open 8.00 pm. Tickets €10.

Campsite re-opening

The Lough Key Campsite will reopen on the March 22nd.

GAA registration evening

Boys under 8 years can register on Monday March 25th: Registration will take placein the Sports Complex at 6pm-7pm. Each child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. First time Registrations must present Original Birth Certificate (Long Version).

Under 10 years will take place on Tuesday March 26th: Registration in the Sports Complex, 6.00pm-7.00pm. Registration continues for all players Under 12, 14, 16 and Minors prior to training.

Boyle Golf Club

The first round of the Spring League took place weekend March 9/10 with Michael Simon, Pat Conroy and Mary O’Hara leading the way on 82pts. Entry sheet for The King Harmon is on the notice board please put your names down. Draw to take place Sunday, April 7th. Thursday night competition re commence on April 4th.

Easter Fun Day

A cake sale will be held on Good Friday in Ballinafad Hall after 3 o’clock devotions and an Easter Family Fun Day on Easter Sunday in the playground.

Curlew Walkers Club

The next meeting of the walkers club will be taking place on Sunday, March 24th meeting on the Crescent, Boyle at 9am or Leenan at 11am. This will be a Flat and Climb at the Famine Trail and Lough Inagh with your leader being Zeta Griffin 086 3661 336 and Brian Doherty 086 0869 775. Please confirm times with leader or web site prior to each walk.

CE vacancies

The Community based organisation Boyle Group Scheme Ltd will have vacancies on their CE Scheme. The posts available are for General Operatives and 2 Posts specifically concerned with collating archive material. Very cold and windy conditions made fishing difficult with the pike reluctant to take bait, very few fish caught on Sunday 10th March. 1st Derrick Winter, 2nd Eamon Walsh and 3rd Tom Commons.

Stott pilates classes

Classes are now being held in the school gym of the Scoil n nAingeal Naofa, Carrick Road, Boyle each Wednesday. Ladies class 8pm until 9pm and men 9pm until 10pm. To book a place please contact Ann on 086 3088873.

Tawnytaskin community centre

Boyle Singers Circle

Traditional unaccompanied singing, in English and Irish meet on the third Saturday of every month, in Dodd’s Crescent Bar, Boyle. All singers and listeners welcome.


Tuesday night is bingo night in St Joseph’s Hall, Boyle with the €1,000 jackpot still up for grabs for some lucky player. So why not get yourself there, eyes down at 8.30 sharp.

Actions Groups meeting

The Gathering and Moone Boy Action Groups will take place on Thursday 21st March at 8.30pm in Boyle Enterprise Centre. Previous well attended meetings of ‘The Gathering’ and ‘Moone Boy’ Action Groups took place in January. Ideas generated, exciting suggestions and actions for Promoting and Encouraging Tourism in Boyle were identified. We would like to present a progress report, updates and brochures to ensure the success of the promotion and marketing of Boyle. Your attendance is most appreciated

NUIG student’s presentation

Boyle Chamber of Commerce, Úna Bhán Tourism and Boyle TM together with the School of Geography & Archaeology, Discipline of Geography, NUI Galway invite you to a presentation of three research projects conducted by Masters Students in Rural Sustainability.

The presentations take place on Thursday, 21st March in Boyle Enterprise Centre, commencing at 7pm. Anyone with an interest in development issues relating to the Boyle area is very welcome to attend.

The three projects centre on the town of Boyle and its environs, but are also situated within wider development discussions that are relevant to all rural areas at the present time. One explores the potential to make connections to place through film-based tourism, based on the highly successful ‘Moone Boy’ television series.

A second project examines the opportunities to expand tourist and recreational activities at Lough Key Forest Park through the development of ‘Glamping’, or ‘glamour camping’.

The third project investigates the importance of accommodation as part of the rural tourism ‘experience’ under the umbrella of the Úna Bhán Tourism Co-operative.

Charity cycle

A group of 27 boys from Glenstal Abbey School, Murroe, Co.Limerick will be cycling around Ireland to raise money and awareness for Crumlin Children’s Hospital in Dublin.

They will be cycling 1500km in 14 days and sleeping on the floor a number of nights to give a little extra to Crumlin. Here have a website which has details of the route, dates, pictures and ways to donate.
