Carrick RFC and Féileacáin Fundraising Night

Carrick on Shannon RFC are hosting an 80’s themed fundraising night in Murtagh’s Bar and Elevation on Friday 8th February to raise much needed funds for Féileacáin Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Association of Ireland (SANDAI). Fancy dress is optional. Registration for Table Quiz will begin at 8pm with teams of four costing €40 and donations welcome on the night. The table quiz will be followed by a disco with special guest DJ Shannonside Northern Sound’s Brendan Farrell. Funds raised on the night will enable Féileacáin and Jake’s Gift to purchase cuddle cots for Sligo and North West Regional hospitals. Public meeting on Carrick 400

Update public meeting on Carrick-on-Shannon 400 Events at 6pm tonight Wednesday, February 6th in the Bush Hotel. Find out what is happening to celebrate the 400th Anniversary of Carrick-on-Shannon and see how you can get involved. All welcome. Carrick-on-Shannon & District Historical Society

We are delighted to welcome the formation of two new historical groups in Leitrim - Manorhamilton and Mohill & District - and wish them much success in preserving the past and educating the present.

The next regular meeting of the Carrick Historical Society will be held in St. George’s Heritage & Visitor Centre today (Wednesday 6th February) and all are welcome. The meeting begins at 8.30pm sharp, please.

Please mark your diaries for the next Lecture which will be held on Wednesday 20th February in Leitrim Village Community Centre (adjacent to the church, alongside the canal), when well known historian Fr Liam Kelly discusses ‘The History of Creevelea Abbey’ and ‘Blessed Con O’Rourke’. More properly called a friary, Creevelea in Dromahair was founded in 1508 by Owen O’Rourke, Lord of Breifne, and his wife Margaret O’Brian, daughter of the chieftain of Thomond. It was consecrated in 1511 and was the last Franciscan friary to be founded in Ireland before the closure of the monasteries by Cromwellian forces in the 17th century.

The lecture is open to all. Society members have free admittance, all others €5/€3 concession.

Irish Proverb Exhibition

County Leitrim ICA present “Bantreacht na Tuaithe Taispeántas Seanfhocal” at Mohill Library. Helen Rutter the County Leitrim ICA Federation President will open the Irish Proverb Exhibition in Mohill Library on Friday the 8th February at 6.30pm. The exhibition will remain at the library for two weeks. Free event and everyone welcome. For further details please contact the library on 9631360.

Indoor Hurling

Indoor hurling for children aged from 6 to 12 years every Friday from 7pm-8pm in Carrick Sports Complex. Beginners catered for. Equipment supplied, fully supervised. €2 per child to pay for use of the hall. All welcome.

St Vincent de Paul Shop

Our St Vincent de Paul Ozanam House Shop opening hours are now as follows: Mondays 11am-2pm, Tuesdays & Wednesdays 2pm-5pm, Thursdays 11am-5pm & 8pm-10 pm, Fridays 11am to 5pm. We are always looking for good secondhand clothes for our shop. Please only drop clothes into shop during shop opening hours. We are unable to accept furniture or electrical items. Please do not leave bags outside shop as 24 hour cameras are in operation.

St Mary’s Conference members would like to wish Pasty Ferguson, Manorhamilton SVP well on his retirement, Pasty recently retired from St Vincent de Paul in Manorhamilton after over 60 years dedicated voluntary work with SVP in the Manorhamilton & Leitrim area. We were delighted to attend a surprise meeting organised by his local Conference in Manorhamilton to honour Patsy recently, which was attended by SVP members from all Conferences in Leitrim and the SVP Regional President, Ciaran Sherry from Ballina.

USNA Bridge Club Results

Charity Concert

Keep Sunday, February 24th free in your diary. Eleanor Shanley and Charlie McGettigan will appear in concert in St. Joseph’s Resource Centre, Leitrim Village. Proceeds in aid of the Alzheimer’s Unit, St. Patrick’s Hospital, Carrick-on-Shannon.

Marist Third Order

Mass will be celebrated on this Wedneday February 6th (1st Wednesday) in St. Patrick’s Hospital Chapel at 8pm. All welcome.

Carrick 10K Road Race

Carrick A.C. presents the 5th Annual Carrick-on-Shannon 10K Road Race and Walk which takes place on Sunday, March 3rd at 11am. Registration at Aura from 9.30am or online at Proceeds to the Irish Cancer Society. Entry fee still an amazing €10. Refreshments/showers/prizes/expo. Kiltoghert Pioneer Association

Gold and Silver Pioneer Jubilarians: ‘A presentation of Pins and Certificates will be held at a special PTAA Mass in St Mary’s Church on the 9th of February at 8pm. Those eligible should contact Attracta O’Connor or Sean Murray on 086-1266738 as soon as possible.

Kiltoghert Juvenile and Young Pioneer Enrolments: Up to 50 boys and girls from the 5 primary schools in the Parish of Kiltoghert will be enrolled in the Pioneer Total Abstience Association during the Vigil Mass (8pm) in St. Mary’s Church, Carrick-on-Shannon on Saturday February 9th at 8pm. Parents of those being enrolled are invited to come along to the Mass to lend their support and encouragement and afterwards to the Bush Hotel for some light refreshments. School principals and teachers from the five schools are invited to come along as well.

Golden Jubilarians: The Kiltoghert Centre will also be honouring Five Golden Jubilarians with their pins and certificates and 2 recipients of the “Father James Cullen Memorial Medal” in recognition of their 65 years membership of the Pioneer Association.

Blood donor awards

The Irish Blood Transfusion Service would like to congratulate the following who recently received Awards at the recent Clinic, Silver Pins: Andy McGovern, Micheal Henry & Paul O’Brien. Gold Pins: Noel Burke, Mary O’Rourke and Gary Brennan. Gold Pendant: Patricia Keaney and Margaret McDermott. A total of 248 donors attended the clinic in the Bush Hotel, Carrick-on-Shannon.

Croghan/ Drumlion P.T.T.A.

The Annual Function, organised by the Croghan/Drumlion P.T.T.A. will be held in the Bush Hotel on Friday, 8th February, Mass at 8pm, with refreshments and dancing afterwards. All are welcome to what promises to be another enjoyable night. Looking forward to seeing you there.

Wedding and Social Dance classes starting in J’s Hotel, Mohill on Wednesday week 13th February. Learn to Jive, Waltz and Quick Step. No partners needed, everyone is welcome. Eamonn Cunniss is from Galway and is an All-Ireland Champion Instructor. It’s great craic and great exercise €10 for 2 hours class - a bargain - see you all there.
