A farmhouse and 70 acres of residential farm land in Drumkeelwick, Carrigallen, Co Leitrim, is set to go up for auction next month, with the property carrying a strong history in the local farming community.
The two storey farmhouse has three bedrooms, one bathroom and sits on approximately 70 acres of land. The property is located just 5.5km from Carrigallen and 6km from Arva, close to the amenities of both towns.
The house which is situated on a private elevated site has a BER Rating G and may qualify for the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant.
The farmhouse and land was formerly owned by Melvyn Lang, who sadly passed away in 2023.
Melvyn and his brother Selby were well known cattle breeders in the area, with a particular dedication to Hereford breeding. The farmhouse itself was also known locally as a céilí or visiting house, where people would regularly gather and socialise.
The sale is understood to be a bittersweet one for the local community, with Melvyn remembered as a “true gentleman", who was always happy to stop for a chat. His contribution to Hereford breeding was greatly respected in the local area.
The property will go to public auction at 3pm on Wednesday, October 7, at the Kilbracken Arms, Carrigallen. Viewing is highly recommended and is strictly by appointment with the auctioneer.
