GAA KC Motors ACL Division 2 round-up

Gortletteragh and Kiltubrid will contest this year’s KC Motors ACL Division 2 Final after they both recorded victories in the last round of games on Friday evening, leaving Glencar Manorhamilton in third place despite a high scoring derby win against Melvin Gaels.

A Keoghan McGovern goal ten minutes into Friday’s clash with Annaduff proved crucial as Gortletteragh finished the group stages as top team thanks to a 1-14 to 0-13 victory but it was a close rung thing, Annaduff drawing level early in the second half and never letting the home side relax at the fabulous grounds in Gortletteragh, their new stand a great addition to one of the best playing surfaces in the county.

Indeed, an injury time shot from Eoin Gill came crashing off the joint of the crossbar and post and almost threatened Gortletteragh’s progress to the final but they held out comfortably, their full-forward line of Keoghan McGovern, Francie Flynn and Padraig Gallagher impressing.

Gortletteragh were under threat of missing out on the final as third placed Glencar Manorhamilton inflicted a 3-22 to 0-14 defeat on their Melvin Gaels neighbours and with an incredible scoring difference of plus 114 (higher than the combined scoring difference of both Gortletteragh and Kiltubrid), the north Leitrim men might have sneaked into the final had Gortletteragh ended up with a draw.

Glencar Manorhamilton got off to a strong start in Kinlough with goals from Donnacha Devaney and Evan Sweeney giving them a 2-3 to 0-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and a third goal, this time from Cathal Curneen, meant they went into the halftime break with a 3-10 to 0-6 halftime lead. Manor never let up in the second half but results in Dromahair and Kiltubrid did not go their way.

Kiltubrid also booked their place in the Division 2 Final and confirmed the relegation of St Patrick’s Dromahair to Division 3 football for 2027 courtesy of a 0-21 to 1-11 victory over the home side on Friday evening, leaving them in second place in the table. Kiltubrid were the only team to beat Gortletteragh in this year’s campaign, a 1-16 to 1-14 victory in the very first game of the campaign on March 21.

The final game of the final round of Division 2 did not take place as the already relegated Eslin conceded a walkover to Drumkeerin.
