2026 Leitrim LGFA Club Championship launch and fixtures

Leitrim’s ladies club footballers are gearing up for the start of the 2026 Leitrim LGFA Club Championship after this year’s edition was launched last Saturday morning in Drumkeerin.

Representatives from all the county’s clubs made the journey to Drumkeerin last Saturday morning for the launch with four championships down for decision, the new Junior B competition adding to the chances for clubs to taste success in 2026.

Action is due to get underway in the Senior Championship on Sunday August 23, with teams facing five rounds over six weekends as Glencar Manorhamilton bid for a record equalling seven titles in a row, drawing level with the legendary Aughawillan team of the late 90s and early noughties who won 16 titles over a 22 year span in the county.

Glencar Manorhamilton will open the defence of their title by hosting last year’s Intermediate champions Drumkeerin on Sunday August 23, with defeated finalists St Joseph’s away to St Mary’s Kiltoghert, the clash of St Francis and Ballinamore Sean O’Heslins rounding out the first round.

St Joseph’s will host the champions in a repeat of the last three Senior Finals on Sunday August 30, in a much anticipated clash. St Joseph’s have appeared in all but three of the last 16 Senior Finals, winning four titles which leaves them fourth on the roll of honour behind Aughawillan (19), Glencar Manorhamilton and Fenagh (6).

In the Intermediate grade, last year’s finalists Dromahair open their campaign against last year’s Junior Championship winners Annaduff in another clash of the champions while Fenagh take on Mohill with Kiltubrid, relegated from Senior, having a bye.

In the Junior grade, St Brigid’s will be the big favourites, the former Connacht Junior finalists, among four first string teams in the grade along with Keeldra Gaels, Bornacoola and Melvin Gaels but the Aughnasheelin, Aughawillan and Drumreilly combination will start as strong favourites to take the crown.

The Senior Final has been fixed for the weekend of October 17-18, with the Intermediate Final due to take place a week earlier on the same weekend as the Men’s Connacht Gold Leitrim SFC decider while the Junior A decider takes place on Sunday October 4.

Before that, the Leagues reach the knockout stages next Sunday with semi-finals in the top two divisions along with a Division 1 relegation final and with the championship coming up, laying down an early marker may serve teams well ahead of this year’s championship.
