Sensational Cormac Rynn sets new Irish Junior record and hits two European Qualifying times

Swimming: Trident SC impress at Irish Open & Olympic trials with four swimmers claiming medals

It's been a phenomenal few days for Team Trident at the Irish Open and Olympic Trials at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin as Cormac Rynn brought the house down with his swim in the 400m freestyle to claim that Irish Junior record.

The Arigna youngster, competing for National Swim Centre Limerick and Trident, secured two qualification times for 2024 European Aquatics Championships in the 400m and 200m Freestyle, taking silver in the shorter event.

All of our Trident swimmers set personal bests - Clara Doherty swam 5:20.47 to claim a bronze in the Junior 400 IM while Phoebe Lynott had a great swim for a two second pb in the same event.

Conor Lanigan dropped a second on his 100m Butterfly to claim bronze and had a brilliant swim in the 200m Butterfly (a five second PB) to claim silver. Eoghan Rynn blasted down the pool in his 50m freestyle to claim bronze and picked up a silver after a very fast 50m Butterfly.

A brilliant five days at the NAC, lovely to see all the swimmers supporting and cheering on each other. Congratulations to our Connacht National centre athletes, they are such an inspiration to all the swimmers in Connacht that want to follow in their footsteps.

Thanks to Fiona and Denise for all their work as officials and team managers and Helen for the coaching support.

A few weeks ago at the McCullagh International, Team Trident - Clara Doherty, Phoebe Lynott, Conor Lanigan and Cormac Rynn - claimed the Connacht Junior Medley Record.

Trident coaches Helen and Bernice are so proud of all these very dedicated swimmers who put so much effort into their training.
