Paddy O'Rourke, Fianna Fáil and Enda McGloin, Fine Gael are the first councillors elected in Leitrim.
Both councillors have been elected to the Ballinamore Local Electoral Area after the first count began at approximately 2.30pm this Saturday.
The Ballinamore area saw 10152 votes in the electorate. The total poll saw 6660 votes. The number of spoiled votes reached 56. The valid poll saw 6604 votes, and the quota was a minimum of 944 votes.
Fine Gael candidate and outgoing councillor Enda McGloin was assured of a return to Leitrim County Council with a massive vote in his home town, Drumshanbo.
He saw 1033 votes in the first official count, while Mr O'Rourke saw 1434 votes in the first official count.
With 96% of the vote in the tallies, Paddy O'Rourke saw a large number of votes coming from the Carrigallen boxes.
There will be a distribution of Mr O'Rourke's 490 surplus votes.
