Darkmouth is an action packed adventure series written by Shane Hegarty. Shane will delight young audiences with tales from Darkmouth at Wild Words Carrick-on-Shannon Children’s Book Festival at 3pm on 8th August at The Dock, Carrick on Shannon.

There are towns where the border between our world and the world of monsters (properly called Legends) is thin. One of those towns is Darkmouth.

There, our hero Finn is the son of the last remaining Legend Hunter – which means that one day soon Finn will be the last remaining Legend Hunter. Except…he’s not very good at it. And in a spectacularly unfortunate coincidence, the leader of the Legends is in the midst of planning an all-out invasion… beginning in Darkmouth.

Shane was the Arts Editor of the Irish Times but left to write full time in 2013 when Darkmouth became the book every publisher wanted to sign at the renowned Bologna Children’s Book Fair and have become a publishing sensation with deals worldwide.

The second book in the Darkmouth trilogy was released this week – just in time for the festival!

The special Darkmouth event is on 8th August at 3pm and is suitable for children aged 10 and upwards.

Ray D’Arcy from RTE will then be interviewing Shane alongside authors Matt Griffin (A Cage of Roots) and Dave Rudden whose debut novel, Knights of the Borrowed Dark will be released in Spring 2016. A not to be missed session about writers and writing.

The festival has a wide range of events for children aged 4-14, from storytelling aboard the Moon River; a Monster Doodle of doodling fun with former children’s Laureate Niamh Sharkey and Ray D’Arcy there is plenty for everyone.
