At the ceremony, Minister Calleary congratulated all the winners. He also referred to the competition’s popularity and rich history, which this year celebrates 68 years of environmental and community initiatives.

Minister Calleary said: “I am honoured to be here this evening to present all the TidyTowns volunteers from the eight counties in the North-West and West region with their well-earned prizes from the 2025 competition. I had the pleasure of meeting many of you at the National Awards ceremony last October. There is no doubt that the great work undertaken by TidyTowns groups makes our towns and villages better places to live, work, visit and invest.”

He went on to say: “In recent years, over 30,000 individuals have volunteered with TidyTowns groups. I have the greatest respect for the civic pride TidyTowns volunteers have demonstrated in such a selfless manner over the 68 years the competition has been running”.

Minister Calleary also thanked SuperValu who this year celebrate 36 years of sponsorship of the competition.

Speaking at the event, Maighread Cremin, SuperValu Community and Sponsorship Manager said:“On behalf of SuperValu, I want to congratulate everyone involved in this year’s SuperValu TidyTowns Awards across the North-West and West. The extraordinary dedication shown by local volunteers year-round is inspiring, and the scale of that commitment continues to grow, with more than one million volunteer hours contributed nationally in 2025 alone.

“Alongside the incredible work of volunteers, our SuperValu retailers play a central role in supporting local initiatives in towns and villages across the region, helping to turn community pride into real, lasting impact. As a proud partner of TidyTowns for 36 years, it’s hugely rewarding to see the collective climate action being taken on the ground and I’d like to thank all of today’s winners and committees for the consistent, hands-on work that keeps our local communities clean, cared for and thriving”.

Interest in the SuperValu TidyTowns competition has increased year on year with a record 929 entries received to the competition in 2025. The competition has been running since 1958 and is administered by the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht.
