Leitrim Minor Ladies suffered a narrow 2-11 to 3-4 defeat against Roscommon last Saturday at the official opening of Kilglass GAA Club’s new facilities.
Unforuntately, the County U14 Ladies suffered a heavy 3-25 to 1-4 loss at the hands of a strong Mayo.
Roscommon opened with 1-1 in the first eight minutes in Kilglass and went on to add three more points before Aileen Maguire gave Leitrim a small bit of hope with a great goal on 18 minutes following an Aoibheann Flynn pass.
Maguire and Ailbhe Clancy would add points before the break as the home team led 1-6 to 1-2 at the break. Leitrim set about cutting down the gap and two Maguire frees left just two between the teams but Roscommon hit back with three points of their own.
However, Leitrim dramatically turned the game on it’s head with two goals in the space of a minute, the first coming from Alibhe Clancy and the second from Bronagh O’Rourke to put Leitrim in front for the first time.
Unfortunately, Leitrim couldn’t hold out and Roscommon finished an unanswered 1-3 in the final ten minutes to claim a four point victory on the day.
