People living the Corlough, Corraleehan and wider south Leitrim/West Cavan area are being asked to keep an eye out for an unusual missing pet.

Ostrich, Big Bird, ran away two weeks ago when a tree fell onto the fence surrounding his enclosure.

His owner, Stephanie Palmer, has put out an appeal over facebook asking for people to keep an eye out for the AWOL feathered pet.

Big Bird was last seen last week on the Cortoon Road in Corlough near the border of Counties Cavan and Leitrim.

“We really want him back, so could you please share this in the Corlough/Corraleehan (and wider area) and please contact me if anyone spots him,” asked Stephanie via facebook.

Ostriches are large flightless birds native to Africa. They can sustain speeds of 50km an hour and adult males can reach up to 2.8m in eight and weigh as much as 140kg.

If anyone sees Big Bird in the locality, please do not approach him. Contact Stephanie via facebook or, failing that, contact your local gardai and they can organise a method of capturing him.
