Friday 23rd August saw an historic day in the sporting calendar in Keshcarrigan with the official opening the long awaited Astro Turf Pitch and adjacent facilities by Mr Paddy McCaul , President of the FAI.

The sports centre is located on the grounds of what was originally the site of the old technical school in Keshcarrigan. A long lease very kindly granted to the local community by Leitrim VEC enabled to project to proceed without the necessity to purchase to a site. Planning permission was granted in 2011 by Leitrim County Council for a Community Centre and Sports area and the hard task of fundraising started in earnest.

The Sports facility comprises a 5-a-side football / tennis floodlit astro turf pitch with adjacent shower, toilets and changing rooms .

The group was very lucky to secure a National Lottery Grant [Sports Grant] plus Clar funding in the amount of €81,600 in 2006 thus enabling the project to proceed once a contractor was appointed. A further loan was secured from Clann Credo to kickstart the construction work on the site.

Keshcarrigan Development Association would like to thank most sincerely the following agencies and people for all their help over the last few years and without which the project would not have reached fruition:

Ms Catherine Ryan in the Dept of Transport, Tourism and Sport for her help and advice with the Sports Grant; National Lottery Funding; Clann Credo for loan funding; Leitrim Development Co for financial aid towards formatting a Business Plan and Technical fees and ongoing help by providing a Tus worker to caretake the facility; Leitrim VEC who leased the site to Keshcarrigan Development Assoc; Michael Hennessy, APDS Engineer for the project

McManus & Sons, Drumshanbo, contractor for the project; The local and wider community for their help in fundraising activities; Mr Paddy McCaul, President of FAI for officially opening the facility

The facility is now open to any individuals /groups for use at very competitive rates at times to suit.
