The recession is biting hard and times are tough but ‘there’s gold in them thar hills in Keshcarrigan!!’
Keshcarrigan Development Association is about to embark on it’s most important project to date, namely the development of a state-of-the art Community Centre and first class sports facilities on the site of the old technical school in the village. This will be the culmination of several years of hard work by the committee. There has also been setbacks and disappointments along the way but at long last all their hard work has paid off.
The contractor charged with the works has commenced work on the site and it is envisaged that the 1st phase i.e. the sports area will be completed in approx 4 months.
The project will be comprised of two phases, the 1st phase is the sports area and the 2nd phase will be the Community Centre. National Lottery funding has been secured for the first phase with a top up grant from the Clár Programme.
However, it is a condition of the funding allocated that 20% of the amount granted must be raised by the local community.
With this in mind, Keshcarrigan Development Assoc has started a fundraising campaign with numerous events and activities planned for the coming months.
‘Buy a Block’ is the major and novel fundraising idea… the idea being that ‘blocks’ will be on sale by way of numbered tickets, each ticket costing w10 or 3 for w20 .
Inside one block will be a Gold Bar worth w500 and a draw to choose the lucky winner of the gold bar will take place during the June Bank Holiday weekend.
