The Leitrim Folk Listeners Club welcomed music lovers to the Leitrim Inn and Blueway Lodge for its latest showcase on Saturday, July 11. The evening featured performances from Michael Banahan and Bill Shanley, the debut of Trinity Island, and sets from Louise Killeen and Fergus McGovern.
Organisers thanked Martin Costello for providing sound and audio visuals, Adeline and Karen from the Leitrim Inn for hosting the club, and Johnny Markey for his help on the night. Michael Banahan, who recently released his debut solo album Broken Heart, performed with guitarist and producer Bill Shanley.
Michael Banahan's set included The Tango and Winter in the City. Bill Shanley has worked as musical director for Mary Black and previously served as musical director for Sir Ray Davies of The Kinks for 10 years. His career has also included work with artists including Gilbert O'Sullivan, Paul Brady and Sinéad O'Connor.
The evening also marked the debut of Trinity Island, a new band performing a mix of traditional and contemporary folk music. Singer-songwriter Louise Killeen performed during the showcase. Organisers said she will return to the club with Donal O'Connor on August 8.
Fergus McGovern also took to the stage during the event. The next Leitrim Folk Listeners Club night is due to take place on Saturday, July 25.
