On Friday, March 4 at 7pm a commemorative evening will mark the 101st anniversary of the Sheemore Ambush.
A plaque will be unveiled for Effernagh woman Lizzie Early who was a member of Cumann na mBan and played a vital role in the ambush that day.
A documentary will also be premiered on a large screen positioned in a field at the bottom of the hill.
Curated and filmed by Edwina Guckian, researched by historian Pat McGarty and scripted by writer Brian Leyden the film tells the story of the Sheemore Ambush through seven characters that played significant roles on that day in 1921. Musician Declan Guckian scored and performed the music for the film.
The film is supported by Leitrim County Council and the Department of Tourism under the Decade of Centenaries 2012-2023 initiative.
