The Western Development Commission (WDC) and Leitrim County Council are thrilled to announce the return of Moving West, now in its third season. The second episode of the series will focus on Leitrim and is due to air October 22nd at 7.30pm on TG4.
Produced by Dundara Television and Media in collaboration with the WDC and Leitrim County Council and hosted by beloved Irish television presenter Mary Kennedy, Moving West continues to capture the heart and soul of life in the West and Northwest of Ireland. Through heartfelt, real-life stories, the series highlights individuals and families who have relocated to this stunning region to embrace a new way of life.
The second episode in the series showcases Leitrim Hill Creamery in Drumcong, where Lisa Gifford, her daughter Gypsy Gifford, and Gypsy’s partner Richelle South run a thriving goat cheese business.
Lisa, originally from New York, moved to Leitrim after living in Serbia and California, drawn by her grandparents' roots in the county.
Gypsy and Richelle, who moved from Singapore, now contribute to the community through their work at local markets and dance teaching in Carrick-on-Shannon.
Their story is one of building a business while embracing the welcoming spirit of Leitrim, where they have found acceptance and community.
Leitrim County Council, co-funding the episode, is excited to showcase the county’s vibrant lifestyle, supportive communities, and growing opportunities in business and the arts.
The breathtaking landscapes, abundant lakes, and growing food scene are at the heart of what makes Leitrim a unique and desirable place to live, work and visit.
Leitrim County Council Chief Executive, Joseph Gilhooly said: “Recent investment in infrastructure, recreational amenities, and business development throughout the County are transforming Leitrim into an even more attractive and dynamic place.
“With the County’s population growing by over nine percent and in 2023, being voted the best county in which to start a business, Leitrim is on an upward trajectory.
“We’re eager to attract businesses, professionals, and members of the diaspora considering re-location to a more relaxed pace of life.
“Leitrim offers affordability and a great work-life balance, along with excellent childcare and quality office spaces, making it an ideal place to live, work, or visit,” he concluded.
Allan Mulrooney, CEO of WDC, commented: “Our communities are defined by a rich mosaic of people and experiences that give the West of Ireland its unique character.
“Season Three of Moving West has been an incredible opportunity to showcase individuals working across some of the region's most inspiring sectors, from indigenous businesses to foreign investments.
“The stories in Leitrim, including those of cheese farmers and entrepreneurs, reflect the beauty of the region and the strong, welcoming communities that make this place thrive."
Mary Kennedy, presenter of Moving West, added: “I am delighted to see how Moving West has developed over three seasons, appealing to growing audiences of different age groups—those contemplating a lifestyle change and those simply interested in hearing about innovative lives.
“It’s always a joy to spend time in the West of Ireland and to showcase this part of the country, rich in community, landscape, and progression."
Be sure to tune in to TG4 on October 22 at 7:30 pm to catch this exciting episode as Moving West continues its exploration of life in Ireland’s West.
