The Dock
World Down Syndrome Day takes place on Friday, March 21 and will be celebrated with Leitrim Youth Theatre performances at The Dock in Carrick-on-Shannon.
The night will feature four performances, promising entertainment and fun for all.
Bright Sparks Juniors will present ‘Kingdom of the Midnight Sun,’ directed by Gavin Sweeney, Maura Williamson and Mia Blake. This original devised performance is bursting with imagination, blending Egyptian mythology with a sci-fi twist to take audiences on a captivating journey where ancient legends meet futuristic adventure.
Bright Sparks Senior, a wonderful down syndrome group will perform ‘Clowning Around Town.’ This piece began with the group exploring clowning and circus techniques, focusing on mime, body movement and spatial expression to develop a fun mini circus piece.
The group will also present ‘It’s My Party.’ Both performances are directed by Mia Blake, Gavin Sweeney and Maura Williamson.
Lastly, Leitrim Youth Theatre Juniors will present ‘Poisoned in the Garden,’ directed by Sinéad Quinn, Emily Sachs Eldridge, and Ailbhe Rogers.
Bright Sparks is a new youth theatre programme funded by Leitrim County Council’s Creative Ireland programme. It caters to young people aged 10 to 17, particularly neurodiverse individuals or those who find the school system challenging, offering a more relaxed pace suited to their individual needs.
Leitrim Youth Theatre is a professional youth theatre programme consisting of both junior and senior groups, led by highly skilled theatre facilitators, providing young people with opportunities to engage in acting and performance.
