Just before the Summer holidays on Thursday June 11, The Dock will be showing a gorgeous children’s puppet show followed by a short workshop, suitable for children aged 6-10 years.
Niamh Lawlor of the award winning Púca Puppets has created Mary Mary a puppet who is a poet, storyteller and singer of songs.
Mary Mary tells the children that in Viking Times there were no televisions, tablets, cinemas or even widely available books, and that people spent the long dark evenings in their cosy longhouses sharing sagas, poems, songs and news.
She invites the children to sit back and imagine in their own minds the story she unfolds for them.
It will allow children a rare opportunity to enjoy the pleasure and rhythm of words and to engage with her inimitable style.
Afterwards the children will have a chance to respond creatively to her story or to draw or write their own favourite tale or to create new characters, stories and verse.
She encourages their creativity and invites them to partake in their own way in the tradition of storytelling.
To book performances in The Dock please contact: 071 9650828, admission is €5 per child, teachers are free.
The show is on Thursday, June 11 at 10am and 12 noon.
