Drainage works for "saturated" Fenagh road

Council can't get in contact with landowner

Drainage works for "saturated" Fenagh road

Cllr Ellis suggested putting a pipe in place across the R202 in Fenagh to take the water off the road.

Cllr Caillian Ellis proposed that Ballinamore municipal put a pipe in place across the R202 in Fenagh to take the water off the road.

He was speaking at the latest Ballinamore municipal district meeting.

He was told that the R202 in Glasdrumman is currently on the 2024 Roadworks Programme and "we are carrying out drainage works and have identified areas where the drainage is an issue. We are hoping to clean the surrounding road drainage with the support of the local landowners. This action, along with repairing damaged culverts, will alleviate the drainage issue."

He said that the field on the far side of the road is "saturated" and that if "you put the pipe at an angle, it will go into the drain on the far side and take it away down into the lake."

Mr O'Boyle said there is a solution but "we need the permission of the landowner to get in and we can't seem to contact him. If we can get in and clean out the drain, the existing system will work."

He added, "We have two kilometres to do on that road from Selton Hill towards Fenagh; it's out of shape and causing issues with drainage. Once we've done our pre-works drainage, we note that culverts are working but it's just not getting away towards the lake."
