Construction is currently underway to deliver high-speed broadband to more than 300 homes, farms, and businesses in the Bawnboy deployment area of Leitrim. This rollout includes the rural townlands of Cloverhill and Garadice.
The announcement was made on June 6 by National Broadband Ireland (NBI), the company responsible for delivering the future-proofed, high-speed Fibre-to-the-Home network as part of the Government’s National Broadband Plan (NBP).
A total of 334 premises in the Bawnboy area are now in the construction phase for connection to the high-speed fibre network, with completion expected by the end of next year.
Across County Leitrim, 12,000 premises fall within the State’s Intervention Area. These locations will benefit from minimum broadband speeds of 500 megabits per second delivered by NBI to homes, farms, schools, and businesses. As the most significant investment in rural Ireland since rural electrification, the National Broadband Plan will bring €46 million in Government funding to County Leitrim.

Work has already been completed in parts of the county, including the rural areas surrounding Carrick-on-Shannon and Manorhamilton. In April, nearly 1,200 premises in the Kinlough area were connected to high-speed fibre broadband.
Currently, 8,868 premises in Leitrim can either order or pre-order high-speed, reliable broadband, with 1,966 already connected to the network.
Nationwide, NBI has passed over 367,000 homes, farms, and businesses across rural Ireland, with more than 130,000 of these now connected to high-speed broadband.
“Our teams are working on the ground all over the country and considerable progress has been made on the developments in Leitrim,” said TJ Malone, Chief Executive Officer, National Broadband Ireland Deployment.

“High-speed fibre broadband is now available to order for almost 8,900 homes, farms and businesses including over 900 premises near Carrick-on-Shannon and almost 2,600 near Manorhamilton. We are encouraging Leitrim residents to visit the NBI website to check their Eircode and sign up for updates.”
“Our overarching goal is to improve digital connectivity across the country. With minimum internet speed of 500 megabites per second, this new Fibre-to-the-Home network will play a pivotal role in sustaining local businesses and communities.”
NBI encourages residents to click here and enter their Eircode to check availability and readiness for connection.
