"The current condition of the crossing is poor and continues to deteriorate, posing a significant safety hazard, particularly for individuals with visual impairments or reduced mobility."
A Leitrim councillor asked the Ballinamore District engineer to give "urgent consideration" to lifting and replacing the existing pedestrian crossing on the R-202 at Ballinamore Main Street, located outside SuperValu.
Cllr Gary Prior said: "The current condition of the crossing is poor and continues to deteriorate, posing a significant safety hazard, particularly for individuals with visual impairments or reduced mobility."
He also asked the engineer to explore the possibility of reducing the rise/height of the pedestrian crossing during its replacement "which would improve its usability for wheelchair users, parents with young children and those with limited mobility."
The official response stated that a Restoration Improvement (RIG) grant is scheduled for The Line Ballinamore in 2025 and Leitrim County Council will endeavour to upgrade this pedestrian crossing as part of these works.

Cllr Ita Reynolds-Flynn supported the motion and suggested that another ramp, "the one in the middle of the town beside Shortt's Bar" could be reduced in height.
