Waterways Ireland are due to install crash barriers along section of Ballinamore canal

Aghoo Bridge on the Canal Bank Walk, Ballinamore

Leitrim councillor Ita Reynolds Flynn asked for an update on the barriers due to be erected on left hand side of canal coming from Ballinamore and was told Waterways Ireland are due to install vehicle restraint system (crash barriers) on the Golf Links Road.

She said: "It is dangerous and there are people walking there all time; there is a gap where you could slide down into the water."

She was promised that the area would be examined.

Cllr Enda McGloin supported the motion saying, "I know people who cycle or walk that road just beyond where you go to cross the bridge and there is a fear that someone might just slip."

Cllr Gary Prior also supported the motion.
