Leitrim County Council is planning a bus enhancement scheme for Ballinamore, with plans at an advanced stage to deliver two new bus shelters on the main street.
The works form part of the 2026 Bus Stop Enhancement Programme, under which the Council intends to improve existing bus stops by upgrading the stops themselves and associated public infrastructure.
The primary objective is to make public bus services more accessible while enhancing passenger experience, comfort, and convenience, in accordance with guidelines published by the National Transport Authority (NTA).
In a statement on Facebook, councillor for the Ballinamore area, Gary Prior, noted that two new bus shelters will be located on the main street adjacent to the Fohera River bridges, including one bus shelter serving westbound passengers and one bus shelter serving eastbound passengers.
Other works will include the provision of bus stop road markings; alterations to existing kerb lines, kerb type, street furniture, and footpath widening; relocation of an existing accessible parking bay and installation of an age-friendly parking space; surface water drainage; line marking; associated signage; upgrading of public lighting; traffic management measures; and all related site development works.
