Two hands-on days of discovery, creativity and curiosity are set to take place again in Ballinamore with the return of STEMtacular, powered by Analog Devices.

The event, taking place on Wednesday, February 25 and Thursday, February 26, welcomes primary school pupils from across the region to celebrate science, technology, engineering and maths in a fun, inclusive and inspiring way.

Founded by Leitrim science teacher Louise Gallagher, STEMtacular powered by Analog Devices was created to help pupils see how science, technology, engineering and maths connect to the world around them, while building confidence, curiosity and a love of learning from an early age.

A wide range of Leitrim schools are taking part over the two days, including St. Patrick’s NS Drumshanbo; Scoil Chlann Naofa Ballinamore; Drumlease National School Dromahair; St Mary’s NS Aughnasheelin; Annaduff NS; Aughawillan NS; Saint Hugh’s Dowra; Ardvarney NS; and Gaelscoil Liatroma. Pupils will proudly present their own investigations and creations, with projects on display throughout the event.

Pupils will also attend from schools across Cavan, Roscommon, Sligo, Longford, Mayo, Westmeath, Monaghan, Donegal and Fermanagh.

A central feature of the event is the Discovery Zone, a fun, fully hands-on exhibition space designed to spark curiosity and help pupils explore STEM in the world around them. Category sponsors Met Éireann and AbbVie are joined by a wide mix of exhibitors including engineers, environmental organisations, wildlife experts, universities and community groups, all encouraging children to explore, experiment and ask questions.

Every activity is designed to be interactive, ensuring children learn by doing and discover how STEM shapes everyday life.

Another major highlight of STEMtacular is the student STEM project showcase, where pupils proudly present their own investigations and creations. Projects on display include: ‘How can we help prevent an area from flooding and make the world better?’ ‘What do drinks to do our teeth?’ and ‘Threats to Bees and Silage Secrets – Nature's Fermentation Magic’.

STEMtacular also features a magical live performance from Joe the Magician, while Mark the Science Guy will keep the energy high throughout the day as MC.

A dedicated sensory area and additional supports are available to ensure every child can participate comfortably and fully enjoy the experience.

“Inspiring the next generation to engage with STEM starts with meaningful, real-world experiences. That’s why Analog Devices is proud to support STEMtacular, bringing together industry expertise, educators and the local community to create hands-on opportunities for young people to explore, question and create,” said Meabh Shine, Senior Director, Datacenter Power at Analog Devices.

“Through real-world learning and connections with industry, STEMtacular powered by Analog Devices helps pupils better understand the wide range of possibilities STEM can offer and the opportunities it can open up for their futures,” she added.

STEMtacular powered by Analog Devices takes place on Wednesday, February 25 and Thursday, February 26 in Ballinamore from 10am to 2pm.
