Former Leitrim convent set for transformation into aparthotel

Planning permission has been granted to convert the former Convent of Mercy in Ballinamore into a 12-unit aparthotel with a café, lift and new extension.
A former convent in Leitrim is set to be transformed into an aparthotel after planning permission was granted by the local authority.
Applicant Hugh Murray submitted the application on May 1, seeking a change of use for the former Convent of Mercy in Ballinamore to convert the building into tourist accommodation.
The development is located on Convent Road, Aghadark, Ballinamore (N41 HX40), beside Scoil Bríd Naofa.
The application sought permission for a total of 12 aparthotel units across the first and second floors.
Plans also include the construction of a new lift and a single-storey kitchen extension to the rear of the building.
Further proposals include the addition of a glass porch and a covered outdoor seating area adjacent to the proposed café on the building's south elevation.
Additional elements of the application include the construction of a link corridor connecting the convent building to the existing outbuildings, as well as the provision of 19 on-site car parking spaces.
Planning permission was granted for the development on July 6, subject to 18 conditions. These include that no outdoor public address system, amplified sound or live music shall be permitted; the development must not impair existing land or road drainage; site development and building works must be carried out between the hours of 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 2pm on Saturdays; and the development must be carried out under the professional on-site supervision of an architect with specialised conservation expertise.
