Ambitious extension plans for renowned Leitrim restaurant revealed

Sustainable Luxury at The Red Bank Hotel, redefines Tourism in Carrick-On-Shannon through Design for Disassembly

Ambitious extension plans for renowned Leitrim restaurant revealed

The Red Bank restaurant in Carrick-on-Shannon has unveiled exciting new development plans to enhance their customer experience and attract more tourists to the area.

A new luxury 12-suite, boutique hotel extension with thermal suite and an extension of the current restaurant all onto one level at The Red Bank, in the heart of Carrick-On-Shannon has made it through the planning process.

The project’s contemporary extension is designed to harmonize with the original Victorian redbrick building, offering a unique luxurious experience for travellers to the Hidden Heartlands and Wild Atlantic Way. Each suite has been carefully designed to enhance Carrick-On-Shannon’s appeal as a top destination.

Owner of The Red Bank, Jason Horkan says they are enhancing the overall experience for their guests through their ambitious redevelopment.

“We look forward to adding 12 luxury suites and thermal area to our existing business while also extending and increasing the size of our restaurant, which will all be on one level, with a beautiful terrace overlooking the river Shannon. There will be no disruption to the current business when work does commence, it’s business as usual.

“Once the project is complete it will generate new employment and attract more people to the town and county, exciting times ahead," Jason said of the planned works.

Through the development process they used Design for Disassembly (DfD) processes in the construction. This innovative approach ensures materials can be reused, recycled, or reclaimed, responding directly to one of Ireland’s biggest waste challenges construction and demolition waste, which is the country’s largest waste stream.

Kevin Loftus, ACT - Accelerating Change Together lead Design Architect, explains: "DfD allowed us to create a detailed deconstruction plan, reflecting our client’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. By focusing on circularity in construction materials, we addressed a critical environmental issue. Combined with our Green Transition Design Thinking approach, this process helped us secure planning permission seamlessly, without further information requests".
