Hyde Terrace in Mohill needs a "revamp"

Cllr Enda Stenson called for a re-vamp of the housing block at Hyde Terrace in Mohill and said funding was needed from the Department of Housing to complete this action.

He said, "If we allow something to deteriorate, it becomes worse and worse and then goes beyond redemption. A stitch in time saves nine and it's far better to get in there now and do those works."

A report by the Director of Services, Housing and Community, Corporate Services, Cultural and Emergency Services said the housing scheme at Hyde Terrace, Mohill consists of 36 properties, 23 of which are in the ownership of the Council with the remaining 13 properties in private ownership. 

The dwellings within the development have previously been upgraded under a Remedial Works Scheme which was carried out in 2001/2002 at a cost of €1.2 million. In recent years, 9 dwellings in Hyde Terrace were upgraded under the Energy Efficiency Programme.

The response concluded that the Council has no plans to carry out a further Remedial Works Scheme in the estate as there is no funding available from the Department for these works.

Cllr Thomas Mulligan supported the motion and said the "Remedial Works Scheme didn't work out as well as it should have."

Cllr Sean McGowan also supported the motion and said that there were concerns about the cast iron gutters and said there "needs to be a new scheme to upgrade it again."
