Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District has received a call for An Post to donate its building in Carrick-on-Shannon to the Council, with the goal of transforming the site into a town hall and a new library.
Independent councillor Des Guckian put forward this motion, saying it is ‘inevitable’ An Post will be out of the building. He referred to the town hall and new library as “much needed.”
“In my view, An Post has made enough money from Carrick-on-Shannon through the years, particularly since 1962 and 1963.
Melvin Gaels snatched victory from the jaws of defeat in the Smith Monumentals IFC Final on Sunday in Pairc Sheain Ui Eslin as they hit three late goals to stun Allen Gaels 3-8 to 2-10 and Observer photographer Willie Donnellan was there to capture the images of the celebrations .... see who you can spot!
“I do expect them to be generous as a result. This county and this county town definitely needs a new hall and a library.
“The present library is not adequate in its location. There is plenty of space around the present post office building to provide large numbers of vehicles,” Cllr Guckian said.
It was agreed that the Council will reach out to An Post in Carrick-on-Shannon to initiate discussions and develop a plan.
