The timetable for Local Link Route 564 from Carrick-on-Shannon is set to be revised.
Cllr Sean McGowan emailed TFI Local Link to request that the afternoon departure from Carrick-on-Shannon to Ballinamore be changed from 3:45 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. to accommodate those finishing work and participating in various activities at 4 p.m.
“I sent an email to local link and I got a very positive reply back and they are going to reschedule.
“Local Link will collaborate with the National Transport Authority to make amendments to the timetable, with hopes of having the updates completed by the end of October, if all goes as planned.
“There’s a lot of people who would get out of training, work or college at 4pm and they were missing that service. Putting it back that extra half hour will see more people using it which is what we want to see,” Cllr McGowan said at Carrick-on-Shannon's Municipal District meeting.
“It’s great to facilitate as many people as possible and the local link service is a brilliant service that’s increasing all the time and it’s very welcome,” Cllr Reynolds commented.
Cllr Cormac Flynn asked Cllr McGowan if he would also contact Local Link to request an earlier bus service in Dromod for school students.
“There’s actually more young people living in Dromod than in Mohill at the moment, and there’s at least four families that are without school transport and are using the Local Link,” Cllr Flynn said.
Cllr Flynn explained that these students are missing their first class because the current timetable causes them to arrive at school at 9:50 a.m. and require an early departure to catch their bus home.
“I’m glad to note that Local Link have been reasonable and accommodating in their reply,” added Des Guckian.
