Carrick-on-Shannon has been recognised as Co Leitrim’s tidiest town at the SuperValu TidyTowns awards ceremony in Croke Park.

Over 600 TidyTowns volunteers were present at the SuperValu TidyTowns awards ceremony at GAA HQ in Dublin with the event live-streamed to many more online on Friday.

A total of 904 towns were competing this year for the prestigious awards, demonstrating the continuing huge national interest in the SuperValu TidyTowns competition, an event which has been running since 1958.

Carrick-on-Shannon’s tidy town group was awarded a gold medal and named Leitrim’s tidiest town, achieving a mark of 382.

The group was delighted with the success. The group posted on social media: “County Winner and Gold Medal Winner. Now only four points behind the overall winner Ballinacollig. Congratulations to all.”

Dromod was recognised as the county’s second tidiest town while Dromahair came in third place.

Manorhamilton was granted an endeavour award.
